The Full Ver-Monty 2.0
This past Thursday and Friday I’ve been over in Vermont riding paved and graveled roads with friends as we scout routes for our club’s annual “Green Mountain Gravel Grab” that’s held in early October by my friend Chet. He puts together the routes and we go ride them early to iron out any potential issues before he invites the entire club in the fall. On Thursday we did almost 24 miles in and around the town of Whitingham, semi-famous for being the birthplace of Brigham Young of Mormon church fame. The only hiccup was when one of our guys crashed and ended up going out in an ambulance with a broken collarbone, fractured shoulder, and broken finger. No concussion, though.
Then yesterday we journeyed up to North Bennington to do 27.5 miles up and down the valley there. Thursday’s Whitingham ride was a bruiser–113 feet per mile of climbing! But yesterday was easier at “only” 81 feet per mile vertical. Both rides featured lots of “Ver-Monty” scenery, small villages, artsy fartsy roadside art, plus a few spots that we decided probably won’t be on this fall’s routes. A couple of great days! (Except for the crash!) (All photos shot with Panasonic Lumix ZS200 and iPhone 13 Pro.)
