Shimano M530 vs XT M8020 pedals

I'm in the market for some double sides trail pedals.
Considering the the M530 and M8020. Is the M8020 worth 2X the price of the M530? ie, are the bearings, shape, size, etc. that much better?

Looks like the M530 uses that plastic bearing seal that requires the Shimano tool to remove if the bearings do need replacement.

Anyone using these?

M8020

I have the M8020 and really like them.

I moved from single sided to these and it made a world of difference for me.

I do not have experience with the M530

I also have the 8020 and they are great. I'd say given the relatively modest price of pedals, the 8020 is worth the 2X cost adder. Bigger platform, lighter weight, lower stack, better mud shedding, upgraded parts, etc.

The lil plastic tool can often be had for a couple bucks. And both models use similar ball bearings and are fairly easy to service. The difference really is in weight, materials, platform size, and finish. Even the cheapest spd pedals are tanks.

i'll just chime in to say that altho seemingly nukeproof, the budget minded spds don't engage as nicely as the xt/xtr level pedals. i don't see any good reason why, but the xtr pedal engagement is super crisp and positive. whereas my m520 and m530 pedals always felt a bit mushy.

never ridden the 8020 pedals, but servicing the shimano pedal is easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy. Besides, what else are you going to do with that big tube of Phil grease that you only use to treat BB threads????
