We moved to the USA/Canada border town, Blaine three years ago… The rural grid of roads through berry fields with snow capped mountains in three directions is amazing… Mostly empty flat to rolling hills… Blaine proper, is just a hoot… No one around, a beautiful harbor with some of the best sunsets anywhere… Jobs, nope… It’s nice to be retired… Enjoy your journey…

I live in Bellingham. The road riding is not very good. The mtb is world class. The gravel riding is ok but aside from the dry middle of summer I’d usually prefer to be on a hardtail than the gravel bike if not “actually” going mountain biking.

We used to live Vancouver, BC (not a good place to retire IMO) but Blaine and Bellingham are both awesome places to ride. We have friends who live in Bellingham and they love it although they don't ride but the trails are awesome there. Blaine has really nice road riding options. We used to drive down from Vancouver just to ride the nice rural roads around Blaine.

If you are looking at Tacoma, you might want to throw Gig Harbor into the mix. It is across the Tacoma Narrow Bridge and supposed to be pretty nice. Easy access to the rest of the peninsula. No idea about the riding in that area, but the roads tend to be quieter on that side of the sound, as long as you stay off the highways.
