Stanyan '18
The first ride on my latest build, a Soma Stanayn'18, I rode it through varied terrain within city limits, starting out on pavement then tightly packed dirt on Sunset Blvd before entering GG Park trails with loose dirt and an occasional smooth rocks/roots/gravel. The bike held it's own and performed well as I figured it would since I owned one of these frames previously. This could probably be testament about the Soma Vitesse 700x33 Supple EX tires as it is about bike itself, what can I say, simply put great all around tires. They absorb and smooth out bumps while gripping pavement and keeping the tires on the road with your momentum going forward. Fun ride on a fun bike. On the ride I stopped off at American Cyclery on Stanyan and Federick street to show Bradley Woehl of American Cyclery how I built the bike up. Bradley had a hand in the design of this frame by Soma, hence why it is called Soma "Stanyan". This is the second edition of the Stanyan, the first one was designed with a 1-1/8 head tube that used a threadless stem, this the second rendition has a 1" headtube and uses a quill stem. Other than that they both display excellent workmanship and great handling that exceed its bargain price point. The frame was designed and crafted with the streets, steep hills and trails of San Francisco Bay Area in mind. I give it a 5 out of 5 rating as I do the Soma Supple Vitesse EX tires. I did maybe 15% of the work. I did the caulking and painting. Every now and then I held a board while he cut so it wouldn't move haha. My buddy is great with wood work and helped me out by doing the majority of it. If I would have attempted to build it myself, It would have probably looked more like an octagon or something lol.
Here's the full build with photos from beginning to end.. https://forums.thepaceline.net/showt...39#post2337439 |

Very nice hill pal, now I don't even need to bring a bike to D2R2 anymore, I could just borrow one of your gravel bikes!
