Trek 370 in 1998. My only criteria was that it didn't have downtube shifters. Put it on layaway and visited it every week when I put more money towards it. My brother still has it.

My first real road bike was a Felt F75. I upgraded from a Schwinn something or other which was one of those mass produced bikes with wide welds, plastic friction shifters, and a kickstand. The Felt had 105 and felt like the best bike in the world in comparison. It was also the source of a great and unfortunate object lesson for me: I stopped in the middle of my ride for a coffee in downtown Santa Barbara and came outside to find my small bike lock cut and no more bike.

First road bike purchased new by my father for me in the spring of 1983 for 6am Sunday morning coffee and donut rides. He never stopped and I rejoined the Sunday rides almost 20 years ago.
Interesting bike and a great 27 to 700c conversion candidate. 1982 parts and paint sold on a 1983 frame which was the first year this model moved to 126mm spacing and under BB cable routing (along with the move to the sloped crown fork). As such, an easy 130mm 700c convert. 40 years this spring and has been getting a lot of run these past 2 years. Pics are first fresh from 35 years tucked away when I pulled it out for a refresh in 2020 and second after refresh. Dura Ace and XT mixed 8 speed drivetrain with Ritchey Logic Crankset, Real Chainrings and XC Pro pedals, 700x35 tires, an old Dean Ti post and Ti American Classic cage round out the rebuild: |

Giant TCR Carbon. Subsequently hit by a tractor while riding country roads and pitched into the ditch. Cracked SS and CS, then upgraded to a Cannondale.

It was a 1970's Raleigh Record purchased at Zumwalt's in San Diego.
I think I remember it costing $75 new. My father purchased it for me although he did not understand my desire for it and cycling. It Looked like this Grand Prix, must have weighed 30 lbs but I loved it. |

This is me being smug with my 2012 Jamis Xenith SL. This was my first drop bar road bike, and goodness did I love it. It came with Dura Ace tubulars with 21mm!!! tires, which led to a more than a few instances of
'Dad, I got a flat, can you come pick me up?' 'Where are you?' 'New Hope, PA' 'That's 50 miles away.' 'Yeah, did I tell you lately how much I love you?' Hence, why you see those Easton EC90 clinchers on the bike in the picture. Cheaper than all those taxis, more dignified than all that groveling to dad. Sold it after 3ish years, but lately I've found myself really missing it. It would be cool to ride it again and see how it feels compared to all of the bikes I'm currently riding. I was not on the Jamis pro team, but by golly did I do my best to be mistaken as someone on the Jamis pro team. Total poser. Edit: I'm sorry that most of the bike is hidden in the picture. It's the only one I have handy of *my* actual bike, and not a catalog photo. |

Exact same for me, back around 1990 give or take, bought from, I -think-, the Nordic Skier shop in Wolfeboro, NH. I freakin loved that bike.

Please do so. That frame doesn't deserve to languish.

I had one of the Aluminum Litespeeds with Carbon Seatstays...I don't think the stays helped. BUT full campy record and a set of Ksyrium's. Fun bike.
