OT: Best place to buy [car] tires?

It's been years since I stopped having a long car commute where i was going through oil changes, tires etc pretty frequently, i'm out of the loop.

Is tirerack.com still the go-to for well priced tires delivered. Any other good spots to check out on the web?

On the hunt for some UHPsummer tires, and no brick and mortar shops around here in NJ carry them, especially in the middle of winter.

Last time I was looking for tires tirerack.com did not have exactly what I wanted, so I wound up using discounttiredirect.com . They were able to drop ship to an installer, etc., similar to tirerack, with a good price. I'm presuming Eurotire in Fairfield is history?

I recently purchased tires from Tire Rack and I had to play the “open a new account with Bridgestone and save $50 in the form of a $50 debit/Visa card” game to get a deal. They merged with Discount Tire in December so perhaps that’s led to more red tape. The tires were delivered in 2 days and I’ve used them many times over the years, but next time I might shop a bit. BTW…like anything else, tire prices are nuts right now.

The last couple times I bought tires, I bought them from my regular mechanic. They are a bit more expensive, but the all around convenience and the fact that I really like and trust my mechanic, makes it worth it to me. Also, the first set I purchased from him, one tire had an issue, he had a replacement and the tire switched out the next day.

Not new, but shopping around and sales can sure help with the dollars. I think all manufacturers raised prices at the start of the year.

They're still there. I've used them to mount tires many times over the years. I should probably check to see what they're prices are. Good reminder!

Costco or Sam's Club.

Sam's will order whatever you want price and installation is hard to beat.

DiscountTire and Tirerack are pretty close in price and I have never found a less expensive cheaper place for tires. I have them sent to a local installer who is also the mechanic on my older vehicles.

Just checked P-Zero summers are 150 bucks a tire, probably not going to get them any cheaper. That's less than Jan is getting for FMB tubs, so I guess it's a bargain!

What size and product were you considering?

My favorite LTS, Sullivan Tire, has consistently provided better pricing than any of the online places, and without asking (ie their first price offered is better...)

And their techs are uniformly good.

Unfortunately, they are a New England only chain...

I did a lot of shopping around when I got new tires for my Tundra...online, local discount tire places, etc.

Ended up at my local garage for about the best price all around and happy to support a local business.

I've purchased my last couple sets through Walmart online. Cheaper than Tirerack or Discount for the tires I'm looking for and cheaper than local options.

One thing to be mindful of on Walmart is they're not as good with pictures and descriptions, so be sure the part number matches what you're looking for.
