to me, having to use a chain tensioner or RD for chain tension kills the idea of simplicity of the single speed.
i would absolutely spring for a used WI eccentric rear hub for chain tension and eliminate the tensioner.

Yes, one of my single speed bikes have a half-link. They don't last very long though compared to a regular removable link.

Good Luck
my guess is the chain line.
Is the derailleur just on there going to what would be the smallest cog on the cassette? In the case of the White industries Eno. it is set to use the inner chainring of a double chain set. One tell might be the Chainring bolts. Are they loosening up? if they are that is probably due to side forces on the chainring. check timing on the slip as well. Same point on the pedal stroke may lead to chainring tooth, bottom bracket or pedal bearings. Inconsistent slipping may be pawls in freehub, bad sprocket tooth. Good luck with your diagnosis. Might want to stay seated until figured out. Dropped a fixie chain twice on downhills. One jumped off an Eno and/or chainring, wrapped and locked up the back wheel at 30 miles per hour. 2nd ride on bike and wore through the new tire. One lost the Chainring bolts, All 5, the chain dropped and wrapped and locked the back wheel at about 25 mph. Luckily in my seat both times and just skidded to a stop. Ride safe, BamBam |
