ride suggestions in/around Bay Park (San Diego)

We're visiting family this weekend and there are some great little hills in the neighborhood, but I'm wondering what's nearby that's really good. I like to climb.

thanks,
Chris

KNOX Street is a killer. Hill Street from Ocean Beach to Catalina and then the rollers on Catalina to the end of Point Loma. If you have a National parks pass you can get into the Cabrillo Monument free and see spectacular views over san Diego Bay to the mountains and into Mexico. Up Soledad Mountain Road to the Veterans' Memorial Cross for a spectacular view of the whole county and up the coast to newport Beach. From there ride down Via Capri and come back up for a steep climb.

lol. I slept in (50th b-day) and then rode up Mt. Soledad. Assuming we have a reasonable amount of fun tonight, I’ll probably head out to the South tomorrow, although the five fingers of Mt Soledad sounds like good Type 2 fun.

You might enjoy riding up the bike path and Gilman Drive to Torrey Pines Road. Take it to the swoopy/fast downhill to the Torrey Pines State Beach into Del mar. Grab a coffee or a beer and come back but just before the climb back up Torrey Pines Road go right into the beach area so you can ride "the inside road". It used to be THE main road for all traffic but it was bypassed for being too steep and we got the road you swooped down. This will get you into the state park with a potential stop at a small museum that used to be a roadhouse/cafe in the 1920s and let you take a peek at some great hiking trails overlooking Black's Beach. You will eventually rejoin the current Torrey Pines Road past the famed golf course heading back to Bay Park. The only ride that I like as well going south is Catalina Blvd. to the end of Point Loma.

Have fun and let us know what you did.

I only ended up doing Soledad. We all slept in on Sunday morning. The cruise Saturday night was a lot of fun.
I appreciate all of the suggestions and will come back to this thread the next time we're down there.

There is so much to do down here that I'm not surprised that you didn't ride every day. It's always nice to get feedback from out-of-towners to see if they liked the rides we recommended.
