I'm rebuilding an old Schwinn lately and it's so dang hard to take my time, find the right parts, wait for shipping, finish the work day before starting on bike stuff.

Just a self-rant because I'm in a holding pattern waiting for levers, brakes and a seat post.





This seat post is a 26 and I need 26.4.

i know how you feel. when i get a new bike in i just want to get cracking and get it built. i get annoyed at myself if i forget something stupid that holds me up like headset spacers or some other 3 dollar part. haha, yea, we have a problem eh?

that's a cool stem, what kind is it? it appears to match the frame color perfectly based on the photo.

I get so hung up on ss, 1x, 2x, 10spd, 11spd etc etc etc. It's SS for now, until I decide what to do. Good prob to have, is that I'm 3 miles from my co-op, so I have access to loads of old parts.

Good reason for the color match... I painted it all myself. The stem is just a random 21.1 from the co-op bin that is just long enough for me. A few hours of sanding the frame, 220-400-1000-scuff pad. And a few coats of Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2X Ultracover, then Rust-Oleum Auto Enamel Clear.

I'm promoting a new way of looking at the problem.

I'm calling it 'slow build'--kinda like the 'slow food' movement.

If it takes you forever to build one bike, you savor it more, and have fewer 'digestive' issues because, by the time you finish, you have REALLY thought through what it is that you are trying to accomplish!

(Bonus: while you are stuck on one build, you are less likely to buy something else to start...)

Still, I'm kind of embarrassed that the Nobilette that I picked up last summer, on which I got wheels, stem and post test fitted is sitting in exactly the same condition as it was at the end of last summer...

I love the savoring idea. But if I wait and wait to decide what's perfect, I'll change my mind so many times that I won't actually ever commit. Now I'm staring at the Campy group for sale here, but I only have Shimano wheels.
