Mtn Biking is so much safer than road riding

"A mountain biker who fell off the side of a cliff in the Mt. Wilson area on Thursday morning dangled face down hundreds of feet off the ground before the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department managed to pull off a daring rescue."

Beats being random car bait

Would rather go out with my own bad decision than getting run over by a boomer on the way to the foot and ankle place

Boomers are going to be the death of us all. Being that the term hits a little too close to home...

Have a good appointment

I really tried to think this way, but every time I got something wrong riding off road, I got thrown down and it hurt. With what I do, I need to protect my hands. I understand that crashing with motorists is worse, much worse, but my employer will understand me being hit by a car a lot quicker than I got thrown down a mountain.

But what really convinced me was, I helped a guy with a compound fracture out of the woods here locally. It was bad, and still makes my stomach upset to think about. That did it. Sold my hard tail and got back on the road bike.

It’s just not for me

In thirty years of road riding, I’ve had a couple of incidents, but during the year I tried off-road trail riding, man. I saw blood on almost every ride. Eventually went back to the road as well.

The title is very tongue in cheek. You can get hurt anywhere, but lordy, how do you do this?

In 4 years of commuting daily on the road to work in SF, I had two fractured scapulas to show for it, one caused by a guy rear ending me in his BMW on Columbus Ave and one caused by a foggy morning and the slippery metal grates on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Worst thing I’ve done mountain biking is gashed knees and elbows. Once I started riding with lightweight pads, that stopped.

Admittedly, I stay the f away from jump lines and big drops. I ride within my limits and progress carefully. OTOH, I don’t get to choose when to get clipped by a lousy driver.
