Talk to me about Moots Compact SL
Hi Guys. Interested in a Moots compact SL. How do I tell if it actually and SL? I have a picture of the derailleur hanger. Was the Breezer dropouts an option? Solid one piece drop out with cut outs and this was the stock one? Or is the only way to tell if it is an SL is from the Breezer dropout.
Cheers and thanks in advance. |

If you can get the serial #to moots they should be able to tell you model/year/size.

Is this the one that was listed in DC Craig’s?

I saw this bike in a couple of rides around rock creek pkwy but don’t know the previous owner
Well kept, I’d say. And a nice acquisition! Congrats! |

Not an SL.
Solid non-replaceable hanger on the SL. Last edited by beeatnik; 10-18-2019 at 11:15 AM. |

Meant hanger not dropout.
As for my SL, back in the stable: |

Not trying to hijack your post, Justin but I am curious about the difference between the SL and RSL w/ 44mm HT. How different is the ride. Anyone want to comment?

Details
6/4 Ti seems to have a more durable Champagneish finish. Less smudges and dullness after hitting it with Pledge than the RSL and Compact/CR: 2 cut outs in the dropout and the non replaceable hanger: In terms of ride quality, stiffness and handling at the front end, there's no discernible difference between the 1 1/8 RSL vs the 44mm RSL (2.5% less planted than a high end carbon climbing bike). As for the Compact SL, I think it's a frame that offers more range in terms of tuning the ride quality and stiffness. Oh, and it planes (I'm serious). Here's the stiffest incarnation of my SL |

Thanks for the awesome right up Al. I know you love talking about your Moots. With that being said. If it is not an SL is it a deal breaker if it is just a Compact? Was going to trade my Madone 9 for it.

Here is a link to a bunch of pictures also in more detail of the frame.

love the detail on the Campy logo positioning -- well done! Add to that 5-arm crankset and you can't do better than that.
And I'm a big Trentacinque fan as well. A 31.8 bar feels skinny now. |

I dont know for a fact but would suggest that the removable hanger or not has nothing to do with sl or not but rather with model year perhaps? That would be my guess at least. Likely more sls have the non replaceble as there would then be far more pre than post the change sls around.
Same for finish. Moots does not have identical finishes over the years. Its likely a bigger variance between year models than between sl or regular if there even was a difference at all between those. Last edited by tuscanyswe; 10-18-2019 at 04:15 PM. |
