Maybe not as bad as it could have been. From the article:

"I was in contact with his wife Claudine last night", Merckx’s friend Paul Van Himst told Belgian broadcaster, Sporza. "According to her, it is, all in all, ok. Today, new tests are planned."

....and now De Vlaeminck in the hospital too. There's a really bad joke here about his level of competitiveness with Merckx, but I'll let that one lie.

Hope they all recover quickly....sadly they are all aging just like the rest of us!

But by today’s standards 74 is not all that old. Yet both Merckx and DeVlaeminck have pacemakers. Maybe being a world class endurance athlete doesn’t necessarily translate into s healthy old age....but that’s another subject.

Just watched Merckx, De Vlaeminck and Poulidor in action last weekend (again!). A Sunday In Hell, great look back to the European scene in their heyday.

Get well soon Eddy Merckx, Roger De Vlaeminck, and Raymond Poulidor!
Best wishes to great riders with near-magical levels of skill and endurance.

It’s actually not that big of a deal. The pacemakers nowadays are very sophisticated.
Here’s to all of them fully recovering.
