Hacking a bar-end shifter to operate a dropper
I haven't been able to find dropper lever designed to be operated from the hoods. I'm also fresh out of cash for an AXS dropper post and a new bike with a compatible seat tube diameter.
I see that Shimano at least is working on one, but it's not out yet. I'll probably pick one up when they become available. Until then, has anyone had success with hacking a bar-end shifter to operate a dropper (like this Wolftooth one: https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/...emote-drop-bar). Alternatively, I'd be interested in seeing any hacks to get a 22.2mm dropper lever to work on the tops of a 31.8 drop bar. I don't want to spend $80 on something I'm planning to replace. I've got an old bar-end shifter I can use. |

I’m not 100% sure how to do this, but I would start with the LH shifter hacks on YouTube, figure out how that works, then see if I could adapt that to your bar-end

I ended up converting an old suntour top mount shifter into a dropper lever. I couldn’t get a comfortable placement near the hoods so I mounted it on the tops. I took out the spring and pawl in the shifter. The original band clamp was too small to fit around a 31.8 bar. Luckily, hose clamps have the exact same width as the original band clamp. I cut the screw part of the hose clamp off and enlarged the slots on the band part to make it fit the shifter clamp plate.
