Side play with FSA MegaExo crank?

I've never installed one. Friend is saying his carbon FSA crank is moving slightly side to side. Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

Is the crank bolt torqued correctly? I loosely recall some of their cranks using a small spacer on the spindle, so perhaps that is missing. If the BB is worn out of course that could cause issues as well. There are spindle shims/spacers out there as well to take up play.

is this an all of a sudden thing?

Did he put the wave washer in? (not sure the megaexo has it but my FSA crankset sure does.

First iterations had an alloy retaining bolt for NDS crank, it's rubbish and should be replaced. The actual BB spindle came with a wavy washer which was installed on NDS between crank and external cup seals. If it's not there you may get in the order of 1 ~ 1.5mm slop.

Friend bought the bike new, but he noticed the problem recently. Bike is 6-8 years old.

I'm guessing that the spring washer that rustychisel mentioned went missing from the original build. Thanks for making me aware of it.

Now where to get one?

But you could ask here, I bet someone has one and will throw it in an envelope for you. LBS might too. There are a lot of cranks that use a wave washer so they might have some around

Yeah... 1) Wave spring/washer between bike and crankarm. 2) tighten the bolts in the correct order - big cap bolt then pinching bolt.
