i do believe the reliability gap is really closing in on the legendary toyota reputation as others catch up.

these days, it seems like electronic sensors, computers, etc kill a vehicle long before major mechanical components bite the dust.
I bought a Tacoma, new in 2017. Sold a year later. Transmission wasn’t that great. Seating position felt weird. GM and Ford are much better.

My dad had an '07 ext. cab V6 4x4, 6mt. I drove it a bit and really liked it. Actually one of the nicer driving trucks I've be in. Zero issues. Sold it to my uncle when his work truck quit who drove it hard for several more years before getting a full size.

Thanks. Since they haven't redesigned it for twenty years I think that speaks to your comments.

There is a new somewhat redesigned Frontier for this year. Great little truck. Most of the problems with new vehicles is all the electronics they put in them. Basic vehicles usually are fine.

Was looking at a new Ford ranger the other day. The top models had so many features, something is bound to cause problems at some time. Basic models probably run forever. I think same is true with Toyota Tacoma....just get the basic model with 3.5 engine.

I had a 2010-ish Frontier (Pro4X trim). Was pretty disappointed.

Simply dreadful fuel mileage, and I'm light on the right foot. Less than EPA projected. Combo of not very sophisticated engine or transmission I gather.

Not very comfortable on the highway after sitting for a couple hours. Ergos not good inside - there was a light switch to illuminate the bed by your knee that was easy to hit on way out door (I had a cap for a while that blocked the light and drained battery a couple times not realizing light was on).

Mine at least seemed to have a hood made of paper. We had a light hailstorm. No other car in the neighborhood had any damage. Our other car saw no impacts. But just the hood of the Frontier looked like a golf ball - not the roof, fenders, etc. Nissan just shrugged.

I’ve had both but much prefer a drop in liner. Cheaper and stronger. And it’s smoother meaning heavy stuff can be moved easier. I also have a rubber stall mat to keep things in place if needed.

interesting perspective!

i think for what i am going to use the truck for, the spray in will be superior, but who knows really i guess. in any event, i'm very happy to be back in a truck, especially one with what i would consider adequate power. it'll be nice this spring/summer to tow my little microcamper without being bogged down on hills, at highway speeds, etc.

I'm in the drop-in liner camp as well for the same reasons

Decided in the end to go with Rhino spray in liner over Line-X.

Stock tires were hot garbage, so picked up some lightly used wheels/tires for well under what I would have paid for Bora's, ha.

Roof racks on. waiting for some hardware to get bike tray and kuat mini skinny up top.

bunch of crap going on, and have to move a bunch of stuff this weekend/week, trailer ball on, ready to tow.

The truck looks good. Lots of power that's for sure.

Every truck I see around here with a drop in liner ends up up having water it under it and rust the bed. I think spray on is great esp if the truck is going to sit outside.
