If you've got money to burn

Someone on the RCC Forum posted one of these VeloHawk bike pods for sale, the full lux version in carbon fiber, for a measly 2K GBP. Honestly, I'm amazed at the things people make for cyclists to spend ridiculous sums on. Need to make sure that your bike is "Away from the errant kicks of children and family"? This is for you. SMH

I'm baffled. I just spent 5 minutes looking at their website and I'm not sure even Velohawk knows what they are selling...or why they even designed those things. Interesting to see though. Would look good in my "man cave" next to my $10,000 sim racing setup and adjacent to the beer keg I guess. Or, all alone in an empty parking garage? Or, even weirder, in the bespoke room at my local F1 dealership? Nothing says WAF (wife approval factor) like a giant box that looks like a computer case!

2 grand is the used price, I think retail for the high end one is more like 7k … yes, still couch change for those with an F1

If the F1 car is out there to touch, why pod a simple bicycle?

I really don’t have money to burn, and my bikes are stored in my climate controlled finished basement safely away from my wife’s drum set (where she practices)…….

Is it safe for me to cross this off my cycling wish list? Drum sticks have been known to cause significant damage to personal property, especially carbon tubing…….

I dont get it - buy a pod to store your bike INSIDE a secured space? why? Lean it against a wall.

I had a bike pod at a workplace that was outside and was lockable - that made sense. I could ride a nice bike to work and comfortably lock it up all day without worry.

Well it's a known factoid if you try to keep your CF bike in a plastic capsule it causes the carbon to break down.

A few years back my neighbor started a storage capsule company. He gave me the first gen pod to beta test. Looks like it's upgraded to bluetooth capable now - $1800 new. His primary market though is public places, apartment complexes, etc.

Because I have too many bikes in my garage I have been having to park my F1 car outside, which sucks because it's got frost on it in the mornings when I take it to work. Been getting noise complaints from the neighbors lately too.

This was my thinking too. Why would anyone put their bike in a box inside a house?

The marketing is silly, but I’d like to build a few out of plywood. I could see having one in my car-port. I also worry about my garage being broken into and a few of these might be worthwhile.

Very niche but also very cool that this exists. Something along the lines of when 3T came out with that bike in the box thing.
