Fancy new eeBrake colourways - The Collector's Edition

just over-priced brakes but this sounds fun, especially those of us with a passion for rim brake bikes and looking to curate fittings for new projects.

https://canecreek.com/product/eebrak...eid=b8d9a56af0

anyone wants to guess what celestial colours each name suggests?

Lunae (Moon)
Mercurii (Mercury)
Martis (Mars)
Jovis (Jupiter)
Veneris (Venus)

Looks like they are already out of stock on all of them.

Website says out of stock but that's just because they're not released yet.

"One colorway per day will be released at 12pm EST starting March 13th."

Other than maybe cool colors, I dont see any appeal in eeBrakes whatsoever.

They are feathery light and are the best rim brake calipers hands down. Stopping power, stiffness, modulation, adjustment, and tire clearance.

maybe your hands are down, but I disagree. They dont work better than campag brakes, are way more complicated and harder to keep clean. Nope, hard pass for me.

Having eebrakes in the past, I don't believe the whole "they stop better than everything else" mantra. Sure they're light, but better than a Campagnolo or Shimano? No way.

They're great brakes, I've used them on one of my BMC TeamMachines in the past. Great stopping power, modulation, adjustability, etc.

To me, the limited colorway concept is stupid and a big turn off. Even if the pricing wasn't so dumb it's exhausting to constantly see cool stuff you can't have.

For example, Rapha with many of their limited edition items give the feel they're not making for the user but for the flipper on eBay or whatever. EE Brakes have the same vibe with the colorway thing. Why put these things out if barely anyone can actually buy them? I guess they look good on an Instragram post though. Maybe if you pay the crazy price you can count it as buying likes on social media to justify the effort and cost. Enough complaining from me!

Isn’t this a common business tactic these days? I’m sure it’s always been around and even has a name, but I can’t recall hearing it. Basically you create exclusivity by only producing a limited quantity, and then you set the price in the absurd range when compared to similar products.

The company Supreme comes to mind.

I also waded into instagram last year and have seen this same sales tactic for all kinds of products. Most of the time the products being sold are not made by the company you’re giving your money to, and they’re not purchasing any product prior to final sales even though they start a “pre-sale” hype surrounding the product and mark stuff as out of stock within a tight timeline, all of which helps emphasize the exclusivity of actually clicking fast enough to spend your hard earned money. You miss out on this run, so you’ll try, and try again. I imagine the dopamine rush of finally be able to spend your money is even higher for these types of sales and may even create higher total sales in the end with ancillary purchases.

Anyway, my guess on the colors are as follows:

Lunae- dark side of the moon homage black and oil slick
Mercurii- silver like the liquid metal
Martis- red
Jovis- baby poop brown
Venerus- ???

I look forward to getting a set in 5 years when someone is offloading them for a slightly more reasonable price.

I don't find the braking power to be superior to Shimano, but the weight and tire clearance are!

They are light and look cool.

They do NOT brake better than campy or shimano or sram brakes, they simply don't. However for half the weight they brake as well, they have good modulation also.

But lets put it this way, your custom $7000 bike frame is not any better than the $1200 one either, its one of those things, people want different things and its good to have a choice. I loved my EE brakes, they were fantastic but I got them for basically free so that was awesome. I would never pay $700 for a new set but also understand why someone would because they are great.

Also lets not forget that super record brakes are $400 so for a few hundred more you can get something half the weight. They are not hard to setup but if you don't set em up properly then they blow, setup right they are a joy and in ultimate rim brake fashion are set and forget.

scarcity mindset to build artificial hype / demand, very popular with streetwear / shoe brands
