there was some question on weight in the tracking info

The weight of shipping carton was 21 lbs. Pretty light for a packaged ebike.

The Ebay listing says the auction was ended.

How did your friend pay? It wouldn't have been through winning an auction. Did the seller offer to cancel the auction and sell it on the side for less money?

Did the payment go through ebay (with an invoice sent or a winning auction or buy it now) or straight through paypal?

If the purchase was straight through paypal was it F&F or goods and services?

I'm sorry your friend went through this and hope he can get his money back.

Given that Spec states 27# weight, I think he has an argument there.

The seller can easily print a label for 21 lb (or 27 lb for that matter) and put in a 8.2 microgram feather in the box.

Basically, seller ships any item to a wrong address in the town of the buyer. Doesn't matter what it is, just shows that any item was delivered in/at mailbox to the correct town and/or zip so that ebay's system shows that the item was delivered. Item can be from anywhere, as long as the tracking number is valid through a shipping company and it went to the correct town.

See posts below for info on how it works:

same thing happened to me on Pinkbike. It was a pita to get documentation from UPS to prove to Paypal I didn't live at the address where the said package was delivered to. You should be able to get information as to where it was delivered at and if it wasn't delivered to your friends address they can get a refund from ebay. Make sure you keep all documentation via email to prove to ebay. Very annoying to get scammed. Hope your friend can get their money back

same scam happening again

pretty sure this is a different seller ID selling the same bike at a too good to be true price. Seems weird some more:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/13454001049...&segname=11051

I messaged the seller and requested serial number.

His reply:

cardinalsfan6175:
---
Dear
I regret that the product is not currently in stock, when the customer purchases it will be sent directly to the supplier. Before sending goods to customers, I will take a photo of the serial number and sales invoice for my customer.
Best regards
----

The studio photos of an item usually are enough to not pass the smell test. I’m sorry your friend got hooked on a scam, hope he has recourse.

I sincerely hope your friend gets this situation remedied. The moral of this story for me personally is that ebay is dead for purchases of more than a few $$.
