Princeton CarbonWorks vs SRAM Jonah Defeats the Whale
SRAM tried to spin a whale of a tale, however a Jury didn't buy into the tail of a whale being used by Princeton CarbonWorks to design their wheels.

I'm a little surprised but pleased by this. From what I read, losing would have hurt PCW very badly, and fewer companies in the marketplace benefits no one.

As much as I like my 454s, I like big corporations' asses handed to them even more when they get out of line.

Brilliant. I didn't even notice; I've had this username since I joined some time ago. Who was it who said coincidence is a much more powerful thing than most people realise?

It's been rumored that SRAM spent over $2 million for the patent rights (originally invented and patented by Dimitris Katsanis, founder and CEO of Metron Systems). Maybe SRAM should be seeking a refund.

I don’t understand the talk about Sram getting out of line and applause for the David slaying the Goliath. It’s not like Sram didn’t have a leg (or two wheels and a kickstand) to stand on. That wavy design was unique when Sram brought it to market *and* the Princeton Carbon design was remarkably similar. So much so in fact that, several years ago, when I saw their booth tucked away in a corner at the Philly Bike Expo, the guy operating the booth blushed when I mentioned the resemblance and said something like ‘Yeah, we know they’re not going to like this.’ Or something like that. I’d be interested in a more detailed report of the court proceedings.

whose riding PCW and how do they like them?
they seem expensive. I keep debating myself about buying a used set of carbon relatively aero (45-50mm) wheels that are a good deal from here on the forum, vs euro retailer for something. Back in my higher mileage and Tri days I had zipp, which were good, but they didn't support the way edge/enve did.
If I get back to riding >60 minutes (currently at 30), my routes will likely include pacific coast highway, where cross winds are ubiquitous. thx jim |
