Poll: Shimano vs SRAM hood comfort

Just wanted to get a better idea on which is more "universal" in terms of hand comfort. Im thinking of trying a Shimano or SRAM group instead of Campy for a change.

Big fan of all things SRAM 22, particularly shifting from the drops. Others will be able to chime in on ETAP.

Which groups? Different groups have different hoods and different hood ergonomics. Which generation?

Good call.... I was probably going to be looking for an 11 speed rim brake group. Ultegra/Force level most likely

GRX Di2 levers are a revelation, they are hopefully pushing that to the rest of their lineup.

+1

I'm on eTap but if I were starting from scratch now it'd be GRX Di2. Shimano really nailed combo of hood and lever shape. Combine that with Servowave and it's both comfy and stoppy.

The most comfortable hoods in the Shimano/SRAM lineups are Rival AXS, for me.

The new Di2 are a bit thin, and can get a bit uncomfortable after 3hrs +.

Campagnolo 12sp rim ergos are still the most comfortable I've used.

I switched from Shimano to SRAM about 5 years ago and won't go back. 10/11 speed hoods are better (for me, but I think that's personal preference). More importantly I like the feel of the shifting more. Double tap and 1:1 actuation ftw

Campy 12 and Campy 10. Somehow 11 was bad for me.

I used to not like Shimano hoods so went Campy 10s. Then, over the years updated to the silly looking Gumby style which was my favorite as far as feel goes. When I got SRAM Red AXS on my latest bike I was worried about the chunky hood shape. Turns out I love it! Of course I wear size XL gloves and have long thin fingers so the fatter shape of the SRAM feels fine. I have only tried the newer Shimano stuff when in a bike shop, which is seldom. They felt okay.

I have big hands and used to love Sram 22 hoods. Nowadays they feel ok. Not a big fan of shimano (9000), thought I'm very keen on trying GRX di2 levers. Campy 11 has been my favorite so far, but I still feel like there's got to be something better out there.

For me:

Mechanical rim - it's a toss up, both good.
Mechanical Hydro - it's a toss up, both suck.

Electronic, hydro, 11 or 12 speed - Shimano hoods are the clear winner.

thanks all. as expected, this is a tough one. I just get weird hand pain from my campy shifters, so i think i cant go wrong with either sram or shimano... i guess ill just pick whichever i can find a group for the cheapest!

hey! who knows! maybe ill even go back to 10 speed!

Wow that GRX Di2 looks slick! Hope they come out with mechanicals!
