Jaegher?

Does anyone have any experience with Jaegher?

https://www.jaegher.be/overview-ascender-fl-xr-road

I recently saw one of these in the metal, as it were, and was pretty impressed with the quality of the finish. With a 7-10 week wait list (frame only), I could almost be tempted if I could shift a few things...

However, they ain't cheap, and I also suspect they could be brutally stiff, so any first-hand experience would be appreciated.

The other potential consideration was Stelbel, but the year+ wait and one or 2 horror stories doing the rounds have ruled them out.

They look good and also expensive, but the price is not terribly different than other custom stainless steel bikes.

Also, why do you think it would be brutally stiff?

I feel like I read a horror story about Jaegher.

Could have been here in fact.

Edit: it was

I too have read a bad story about Jaegher QC and am pretty sure it wasn't here. Don't remember where unfortunately...

There was a thread on the 'salon I believe from a dissatisfied customer of theirs.

IIRC it did not reflect well upon Jaegher.

I'd run far from a Jaegher. Search the internet, you'll find many examples of poor quality and unacceptable customer service.

A few years back Jaegher posted frequently on the framebuilders section of V’salon. Participation disappeared after some member(s) complained about their experiences with the company.

Thanks. That's a definite and definitive no from me.

This forum is a very helpful community.

A friend in the UK had a stainless Saffron built. Flawless experience, beautiful bikes.

Wow, that is bad, real bad.

But to the OP, you thought the ride would be "brutally stiff". IS that from it being stainless steel?

Been following Saffron / Mr Sowter on Instagram for a number of years. He is very active there, with an interesting series of posts as bikes go out the door (bike itself, goals of rider, etc). Posts are more on the finished product but also include the occasional process shot.

The bikes uniformly look well-crafted and thoughtful. Keep trying to find an excuse to fit one into the collection!

He is also one of the folks assisting Dan Craven get the frame building project in Namibia off the ground - Onguza.

Just for the record, I have a Jaegher Interceptor model that I've really enjoyed with no problems. Service and response were good. This bike is from the era when they first went online and were trying to establish a presence on the web and outside Belgium. Would buy again, and I like some of their recent innovations.
