I wonder if it’s safer to follow the Richard Moore route and create a cycling media company that you can then contract to a larger, NOT outdoor-oriented media entity.

When finance types get into something they “love” rather than just a business deal that has to perform—that’s when the monkey business seems to accelerate.

It was recorded over the summer, but it seems especially relevant now. I've started watching some of Delaney's Youtube videos. He's a lot more honest and willing to criticize than most in his reviews.

I emailed the general box (asking whomever saw the email to forward way up the chain) letting them know that I thought they sucked and should FOAD*. Not that the higher ups likely care, but whatever.

Andy replied. I replied reiterating that my ire wasn't aimed at him.

***** Off And Die (I know. Harsh. Don't care).

Interesting. I think the VN has really gone downhill (since they axed John Wilcockson), I like Dan Cavallari and was bummed to see him get the boot too. I'd kick in a few hundred, but not blindly. If this takes shape, we could have something. WE. Lol.

It is amusing that reader Comments in recent CT articles completely disregard any article content and focus entirely on telling CT/Outside to f*off.

example Comments: https://cyclingtips.com/2022/11/moot...w-vamoots-crd/

Prior to this crap (the gutting of great stuff by Outside), I never publicly posted on website comment sections. However, I made a one time exception to flame Outside on the CT comments.

One one hand, I don't really think it matters to Outside. On the other hand, I'd love to be a fly on the wall of the reports of the comments and cancelled subs. I wonder if it's really anything appreciable, or if it's just a few bike dorks here and elsewhere yelling at clouds.

It's all about the clicks . . .

I have stopped following VN at all because in my Apple News Feed, whenever you click on a story, you have to then click again to go to their site on the web to read it. Even then, half the time they give you the first paragraph, then want you to subscribe to read the rest of the story. Sneaky and I won't go for it. They're always late to any breaking news stories anyway.

After almost 30 years in journalism I learned that the editorial "content" is only there to fill the space between the ads and there's an endless stream of amateurs who will write/photograph acceptable stuff just to see their byline in print. It's never been any other way. It just wasn't always on a screen.

A little bee told me that on Apple devices the rest of the Velonews paywalled stories will magically appear if you hit the "reader view" option.

Honestly it's pretty easy to see how Outside has totally effed the "OutsideVerse" launch, then can't even code a simple paywall correctly.

Thanks . . .

I'll see if it works–assuming VN has anything worth reading.

As an update... it sounds like CyclingTips new owners might have over-stepped...
Andy van Bergen, Jose Been, Kit Nicholson, Jonny Long and Iain Treloar have all resigned.

Is that overstepping or is that what they always wanted? Depends whether you think their acquisition was to acquire the talents of a competitor or eliminate a competitor.
