I ponied up for the $99.
I mean if I think about what I pay for many other things, plus I have been moaning about the lack of quality cycling journalism, so I figured I had to put my money where my mouth is.
If I enjoy it, great and i I don't I wont renew next year but I figured that I want to give these guys a shot at doing things the right way.

$100 year sounds right to me.

Let's say they produce 40 regular podcasts + 40 "geek warnings." And they get a website with content that's as good as CT was before Pink Bike purchased them. That's somewhere between 120 - 240 hours of content/year for me.

Plus there's a legitimate commitment to women's cycling + diversity (a la everything C.F. tried to arrange with L3gion).

That's under $1/hr for entertainment and it's doing something to push cycling in a better direction.

I call that a steal.

And if Rob English does stuff it's also a steel.

Reponse has been great thus far, although on par with what they expected. They should be kicking off in a couple of weeks (hopefully).

I joined up. 100 bucks seemed fair (especially a 1 time payment) to me and I wanted to support their project! Good on them for not laying down!

Levy is "on sabbatical" from Pinkbike since March, didn't realize until I was digging through the comments section.

Will Pinkbike fall next?

My wife and I got a lifetime membership when they first launched. The CT / EC crew are awesome people and the only real outlet for this type of journalism in the industry. Most of the other major sites and reviewers (from Cyclingnews to GCN to all the cycling channels on Youtube) are ad-driven shills. I can't say I love every single piece they put out or frankly even "get" the whole "Collective" angle, but I think they're a serious net positive for the industry and consider it a true honor to have been able to throw them a little support at the start.

What is truly hilarious are those that seemingly started off with good intentions, only to devolve into product shills. *cough* Peak Torque *cough*

Not sure what you're referring to, but for the record I've found that site to be informative, amusing, and full of a range of interesting content. Although Dave Rome's new Threaded newsletter about tools has already cost me some $.

I think he was replying to the part about "Most of the other major sites and reviewers (from Cyclingnews to GCN to all the cycling channels on Youtube) are ad-driven shills."

I would say, in general, Escape Collective's tech coverage is really good, their racing coverage is mediocre, and their human interest content is overwhelmingly garbage. That's still enough for me to subscribe, and hopefully it will improve.
