I don't see it as passive-aggressive or whiny at all.

The heart-broken emoji makes it look like he would have liked to be included, but didn't make the cut, was not included. The text is pretty straightforward and supports that concept; no whining or p-a attacks in sight.

Glad that in the end James was added. Nice list of contributors, some I'm not as much a fan of, but would love to see a little more from Wade, I really enjoyed his "From the Top" interviews, and miss some of the early CT content he created.

James Huang's name is on the list. Otherwise, it's mostly the usual faces, with the apparent new addition of Rob English?
$99/yr? I think that's kind steep but maybe I'm out of touch.

Guess they worked it out. Yeah, $100/yr is about twice what I'd pay. I understand no advertiser support, but at some point you have to stop the monthly bleed.

Is your ad blocker on? They say you will not be able to back the project if you have an adblocker.

For Canadians it is $140 a year. Little steep at least for me. I think I will keep my subscriptions to Only Fans for the time being. (This is a joke btw)

I can only conclude that his last instagram post worked as he intended it to.

I realized after CT nosedived how much I got out of the content (including the podcasts). A membership is less than than $2 a week — I’m fine paying that for what I anticipate getting out of the new venture.

They now have my money.

EDIT: I completely understand those not wanting to pony up for another monthly/annual subscription fee. But if you care at all about cycling journalism, I think this is a no brainer. I counted 21 journalists and photographers on the list of contributors. For $99 a year, I'm giving each of them about $4.75 toward a year of work. I'm almost embarrassed it's so little!

Also, this needs a new thread...in 3..2..1..

That's pretty judgemental.

That is a pretty hefty list. So I'm guessing that most of these are contributors (part time or stringers), and not full time staff. So Huang may not be as full time as he was at Cycling Tips.

By my calcs they are aiming at a few million dollars in revenue per year and from Outside's job ads, the rate for a cycling journalist ranges between USD40-80k (and that's backed by what the published averages).

In that, it looks like there's room to fund the capital required (i.e. a website), ongoing costs (website hosting, journalist costs, travel costs) and allow for a modest profit.

They also haven't ruled out using advertising to bolster income, it would just be an additional source rather than the key source.

In the FAQs on the website, they say that there will be ads. They say they need subscriber and ad revenue to make it work. They do say they will be picky with their advertisers.

It could be because there’s a rift, or his life circumstances meant he needed the paycheck. I dare say paycheck.

And I dare say money/stability would have something to do with this too. It could be as simple as the new CT just doesn’t have the budget for him.

Who knows, and really, who cares. None of our business. Nothing to see here and certainly nothing to get upset about (for us anyway).
Weren't most of these guys laid off/fired by Outside? James was kept on and he voiced his frustration with the way his peers were let go pretty openly. Seems like he was finally fed up enough to quit (too bad because he probably didn't get the kind of unemployment support his laid off/fired peers did).

I'll wait and see with this new Escape venture. I'm not an early adopter.
