Anyone else breaking Chorus 12 FD cages?

Recently my front downshifting began to degrade, turns out that the outer cage broke at the junction with the spring. This is the second time it has happened, the first one after fewer than 3500 miles, this one lasted nearly 12k. Never having broken a FD cage in 45 years I'm inclined to think it's a design failure, so curious to know if any of you have similar experience.

More importantly, has anyone had similar failure with a Record or SR 12 FD? I don't mind paying a premium for a new one if I can be confident it won't suffer the same fate. Thanks.
