Quarantine Projects...

Stay@Home is a good time to catch up on projects. I just finished re-painting my kitchen, a project i was putting off for some time.

Today, finally took delivery of some Velocity Quill rims, so tonight i'll pour some good red vino and get to work. I'm impressed with the quality and finish of these rims, they look very nice.

whatcha working on?

Building this Milwaukee Bicycle Co. road frame. Will use a 10 speed Red group, Shimano BR-R451 mid reach brakes, plus various cockpit and spare handbuilt Bitex > H Plus Son wheels I had lying around.

I should really start building wheels!

there are lots of online resources, and it's really pretty easy, as long as you take your time and dont rush.

this stay at home order sucks, but it is definitely a good time to learn new skills.

coincidentally true! good catch!

even as a die-hard campy guy, i have to say that for reasonably recent history, 7900 hubs are some of the nicest out there. beautiful silver finish, with a great build quality, and an excellent method to adjust preload on the bearings. these things run forever with no maintenance too. the XT rim brake hubs are dead simple, bulletproof and really cheap to buy.

I'm still building wheels..DT350 to Dt411 wheelset(times 2) and today, Bitex to Quill rims..soon a DT350 to a BTLOS rim.

Well, building wheels isn't hard but can be difficult. Certainly a challenge and certain basic 'tools ARE required. Biggest problem I'm having is getting boxes to ship them. My local source(ProsCloset) is closed.

BUT sure, if you can get a rim, spokes and hub..give it a whirl. Lotsa of really good online tutorials.

Knocked the dust off this thing. Sitting for years in a box. Went through the trans, full diff rebuild, shock rebuild. This thing rips 46mph, but ran out of road.

Cleaning my home office

Rearranging our “pain cave” to make it more enjoyable for indoor workouts.

Cleaning up my work room in the basement - cleaning or re-cleaning and lubing all my equipment (drill press, band saw, etc) for long term storage, organizing my tool box, and rearranging my tool wall.

I really enjoy it. Depending on how you approach it these things can become a money pit. Electric is a little more affordable after the initial investment. They are insanely fast and silent. But electric doesn't have the sound and mechanical aspect like nitro does. I like to tinker. You can pick up a decent nitro set up on eBay for a bargain. Mine is getting older at this point and replacement parts are a little harder to come by. Overall this thing is pretty durable and really doesn't need much. It's a Associated RC10GT.

Update on the bottom bracket saga: just needed a 15" breaker bar and a couple big pushes. Scratched the aluminum splines on the cup a bit but should be re-usable if needed.
