Last time I talked to Curt he was at HED.

We have some mutual friends.

Should I see what's up?

FWIW

I love my Kvales, but Curt's bikes are outstanding as well.

If I didn't cough up big bucks for my Weigle last year, I'd bug him (CG) to grab a torch.

I see his bikes around the Twin Cities fairly often and they are a treat.

Holy Cow....
I was also struck by the demographic comment right off as well.
I tend to think that if this guy knows such much about bikes and exactly what he is or is not looking for, then I'd cut him loose and just let him graze in his own pasture (graze being a euphemism...)

How long has he been riding for?

I doubt it is the primary criteria but if a choice among perceived equals, the guy might want to give the business based on some affinity or bias to that group.

I’ll repeat as well (for the third time, can you hear me in the back?)...

I am familiar with bilenky...he’s familiar with bilenky. He’s not interested, and if you’re actually familiar with his work and preferences, this should not be a surprise. You can stop repeating yourself.

My opinion - Chapman is easily among my faves working today...I showed him chapman’s booth, he was disinterested.

Chapman builds some really awesome stuff, and if we didn’t have Hanford here, I’d give him a longggg look.

Thanks GMG, appreciate the offer, but my gut says nahhh. I think there are some good points here:

I offered my advice.

He has his own ideas.

Move on.

I hope he picks Bishop - I thought the other person he was looking at was not...well...who I’d pick. I’ve offered up many builders (I did send horse based in this thread), and he can do what he wants.

between this thread and the one with the "bicycle salesman" (18 years eperience!) concerned that $11 is too much for a kickstand install,

just wow.

wow

my mouth is literally agape

I'm picturing a Yamaguchi aesthetic except he's not East Coast.

I didn’t answer because the thread was already getting negative, and I don’t want to speak for him when it invariably becomes a debate.

Like most here, my first priority is how many frames have you built? How did you learn? He thinks that frame building is simpler than I think it is, and he thinks I’ve complicated it and made it sound like brain surgery.

He actually did ask me about him. His stuff looks good, I don’t know him well.

This is somewhat embarrassing...when I responded to him, I confused him with Nagasawa.

I would saw off my weaker leg for a Nagasawa road frame- good luck with that.

Did Tom Oswald in Mansfield PA hit your radar? Not a big web presence but he's been building for quite a few years, and I've seen some of his frames, I think they're quite nice and some may fit the "bauhaus" thing I think you're looking for, his website shows MTBs and gravel things but the bikes I've seen were fillet brazed roadies, simple and clean in muted colors.

Enjoy the season.

Yamaguchi builds amazing stuff.

And if he's willing to waive the Northeast requirement, his options open up wayyyyy wider.

If he's specific and a bit, um, unique, Cheribum is another one to look at.
