Pretty cool.
All it needs is a team-style bike rack and a ladder or two and you're all set.

That would be a slick resto-mod when all was said and done. Same with the bus IMO. Slap 2.5L Boxer motor in the Bus with one of those conversion kits, new brakes and suspension - looks the part and drives great to match. My uncle has a mid 70's bus that he's putting back together that I would love to turn into a bike race van. I keep pushing him to do the Boxer conversion but they are spendy and only worth it if the rest of it is in good condition, which this particular example is iffy. He put the engine from a 914 in for the time being.

For the $34K asking price just buy $5k used van and paint a logo on the side and age the van with neglect. mismatched wheels would be a nice touch.

Just saw the $..yikes but a lot done to make it a daily driver..shows how resilient VWs are..still can find OE stuff.

hmmm, I am taking my wife to dinner tonight. Perhaps, a good wine and my shaven face can close the deal on this van.

The bus was then primered and shot in a not very close Dove Blue. It was a pretty boring plain jane bus to be honest. I stripped a lot of the paint. Primered it again. Painted it again. Painted the logos. Distressed it. Painted it again. Distressed it. Kept going until I liked the look. There is no original paint on the exterior of the bus.
Awful lot of work to make it look like no one ever took care of it. Be waaaay cooler if it was a real campy bus.

The 21-windows are amongst the most rare and desirable, hence the price. Lot of glass in there. You can find a nicely done standard one with bench seats for the 10-20 range routinely.

The linked one has had a lot of work done to it, but in its OEM form they are not much fun to drive beyond around town use. Unless it's an all original show car, the only way to go with these things is resto-mod IMO. Makes it functional with the form. 34K is wildly overpriced IMO. That's a lot of money for a VW rat rod which will have a much flatter appreciation curve than a commensurately priced but traditionally restored one.
