PSA check your Van Dessel Gin & Trombones forks

I was on a group ride in the woods and came across a person who thought their headset was loose. Turns out their fork was about to break. It was coming apart about 3/8" of an inch below the head tube on the outside of one of the fork blades. Just sort of ripping apart. I have no idea what the history of this bike is and I am not trying to trash the brand. I just thought I would pass along the info. Carbon seems to be more prone to sudden failures but if you own one of these perhaps keeping an eye on this area after every ride could help spot a failure before it hurts.

bike looked like this one-
