A nice read for Pegoretti fans (the Jerk fans, too)

Enjoy...

I would never call potential customers "f-king vultures" because they wanted to own a bike Dario had built.

I'd imagine getting flooded with calls the day after the guys death qualifies. Those eBay auction listings were madness.

Lots of bottom feeders came outta the woodwork.

Nice write-up from an interesting perspective, I’m looking forward to the coming installments.

I am out of the loop - who is the Jerk? In the context of this forum, of course...

All of us North American retailers who stocked Pegorettis- all six to ten of us- did the same.
I know one that certainly didn't.

Great write up - excited for the BLE chapter. God knows it will just make me want one more.. Dario was the king of oversized steel.

A former member’s forum name. AKA Craig, who wrote the article, who owns Summer Cycles, who once ran a shop here in Boston, and the antithesis of a jerk.

I didn't know who Dario Pegoretti was until last week so thanks paceline. I remember growing up across the street from two brothers and in the early 90s they were big into following road racing and I got to hear more than I wanted about Miguel Indurain. Its nice to find this connection now.

good article

except it seems he was calling other people vultures at the same time he was yearning for a bike just like the vultures.

I had the same first thought, but I think if you reread the post, you will see a much more nuanced distinction between the opportunists and Craig.

I've never met Dario or Craig, but that's my take.

I hope to one day climb on a Peg.
It will have to be someone my size on a ride with me whom is willing to swap bikes for a bit. Most cyclists are honored to do this.
If I live long enough perhaps.
