My favorite line from Dave's dad was:

"I want American food. I want some french fries."

Thanks for sharing the link! Looks like I'll have to re-watch "Breaking Away" this week while riding the trainer...

Well crap! Now I have to get out the DVD tonight!

Thanks for posting. It's showing it's age but it will always be a wonderful classic.
And now I want to be 19 again.

I love that you can go back to the topic of a movie that you have enjoyed over so many years and learn still learn something about the people involved and how it was made.

So many great quotes:

Dad: He's never tired. He's never miserable.

Mom: He's young.

Dad: When I was young I was tired and miserable.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Mike: You know, I used to think I was a really great quarterback in high school. I still think so too. Can't even bring myself to light a cigarette, cause I keep thinkin' I gotta stay in shape. - You know what really gets me though? I mean, here I am, I gotta live in this stinkin' town and I gotta read in the newspapers about some hot shot kid - new star of the college team. Every year its gonna be a new one. And every year its never gonna be me. I'm just gonna be Mike. Twenty year old Mike. Thirty year old Mike. Old mean old man Mike.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike: They're gonna keep callin' us "cutters." To them, it's just a dirty word. To me, it's just somethin' else I never got a chance to be.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Dave: Everybody cheats. I just didn't know.

Dad: Well, now you know.

And that's part of what made that movie so great. For us cycling geeks it was all about cycling but for the rest of the people it had so much more going on.

Breaking away is not a cycling movie. It is a movie about growing up, moving away from high school to adulthood. Oh, and the lead character likes bike racing.

Cycling movies, afterall, don't get nominated for 5 Oscars and win 1 of them, and win the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture.

That's what I mean. But when I was young and it came out, it was a cycling movie

Time to post that one again...I love the part(music) when he's behind the Cinzano 18 wheeler and when Katerina asks if he is an exchange student..with the hand, 'Si'...
