Ottrott Follow Up

Rummaging through some old stuff I found my Serotta Frame Genealogy sheet. Too funny! But I realized my Ottrott St will be 13 years old in March. Love this bike but starting to get an itch for a new ride. Don’t even know what to consider. I’ve always had a sweet spot for a Spectrum. Thoughts on a nice follow up?

Being another Ottrott owner, only advice I can give is to go w/no expectations. That Ottrott of yours, assuimg proper fit, is hard to beat.

Yeah I can’t imagine liking anything more. It’s really a great bike. I only have one bike and I have kept it a long time. That being said, I won’t get rid of this one. I’m turning 61 in May and there have been almost as many changes in bikes and gears as there have been in my body. The bikes, at least, have become better. I prefer comfort over speed and have eliminated stat feedback as cycling has become more of my moving meditation. No computers or heart rate monitor feedback, just soul spinning. So I was just wondering if there was an updated version of what I’m currently riding that my be built according to my less flexible body and take me into the next stage of my riding. All thoughts welcome.

Why not give the folks at number 22 a call and have them build you what you are looking for. After all they rose from the remains of Serrota. They are doing. Some ti/carbon bikes.

I just checked out the No. 22 site. They look pretty sweet. Do you know anybody who actually has one and how do they like it?

There are a few folks here that have one. Post a new thread asking for feedback and you will get some responses. Also do a thread search for past feedback.

They have a kick-ass garage/workshop , if I recall. Saw the posting over at garage journal dot com when they started. (I hope I'm referring to the correct builder.)

Man, talk about a weekend or evening time suck, that forum/website is unreal!!!

You're thinking of Kris at 44 Bikes -- you know, he's twice better than No.22

I have a No22 Reactor built up with SRAM red (Build Thread) and absolutely love it. The ride is sublime and the bike is just explosive under power. Scott at No22 told me the design goal for the bike was to deliver a smooth, planted Ti type of ride with the same acceleration/under power feeling as a carbon super bike. I'd say they delivered on that... That said, if you love your Ottrott, start the conversation with the guys at No22 and they'll be able to build you a bike that you love. A lot of what they do is an evolution of the thinking and ideas that went into making the Pronto and Legend at Serotta

Another option (which I have a bike from in my stable) would be to go steel with a Fabrica Strada (fabrica). I have a Strada SL (the race bike, Build Thread) and think it's a blast, smooth and snappy. I have a friend who added a Strada as a second bike to pair with his Ottrott and he absolutely loves it. Definitely a smooth all day bike like the Ottrott, but it still has a get up and go under power. Fabrica is a newer outfit from Milan, who are doing some great brazed bikes and working with Columbus on their own tube sets to pair with some awsome industrial designs for seat clamps, binders, and head tubes.
