Seems that Saddleco took the idea behind the Aeron chair and created a saddle with the same (or similar) material.
KeithA, IIRC, you're exactly correct. I'm pretty sure the creator of the "Flow" said it was office chair inspired. I have a Flow, and it is very comfy, but on longer rides the resinous material that holds the mesh starts to rub on me. If it weren't for that, it would be almost a perfect saddle. Good airflow across the bottom of your butt.

I work as an enginerd running simulations all day...So think dull & lifeless. So since this is for home, there are no restrictions (ok the gf might have final say)

Home or office, if you spend much of that time sitting, you will be happy with the Aeron. They even come in three different sizes to fit most bodies out there.

Look at Steelcase, too.

You might look at Steelcase, also. I chose one of their "Leap Chairs" over an Aeron.

In my job at Enormous State University, I was able to go to an ergonomics lab and test out different chairs. We also have ergonomics types who will come out to look at your office and set you up. Here's some of their advice: http://www.dehs.umn.edu/ergo/office/ergosymptoms/

I also have a Fit Ball in my office for stretching. I keep both my bike and the ball in my office, since it's a university, and you could be pretty eccentric before anybody cares.

Worth it....

A few years ago, I finally set up my home office....a nice Stickley oak library table and the HM Aeron chair. The adaptability of the Aeron chair is hords better than the hunk of junk I spend 10+ hours a day in at work. Worth every penny to me...make certain you get the right size and spend the extra $ for the fully adjustable model.

Looks? I went with the basic black mesh. It doesn't exactly blend with nice oak but it doesn't fight a conservative look either.

Find a good office supply store, try there, buy there just like you would your LBS.

Yet another vote for the Herman Miller Aeron. I work at a lot of police departments and many of their dispatch centers have the Aeron for their dispatchers. I've had the chance to sit in them and they definitely fit nice right off the bat, as well as have numerous adjustments.

I've used, and I'm sitting in right now, a Steelcase Sensor chair.

I bought it about 15 years ago. Like the Aeron, it comes in sizes and various arm configurations. It doesn't have as many adjustments but it's definitely supportive to the butt and back. Unlike the Aeron, it's a padded seat and back, and it comes in a wide variety of colors for the fabric and the base/arms/back.

I think the Aeron is definitely on the short list. I plan to go check one out tomorrow; definitely gotten nothing but fabulous reviews all the way around (except the friggin price). Thanks for all the help folks!

Steelcase and Herman Miller have been mentioned and you seriously can't go wrong with products from either company. You may also want to check out Haworth (http://www.haworth.com/) and check out their designs. They are another west Michigan office furniture company that has some VERY cool designs. I think they do Eames style design better than Herman Miller!
