Smith Helmets
I've got a credit with Smith and I'm all filled up with glasses.
Thinking about a Smith Helmet. Any experiences? (I usually buy mid-range) Thanks in advance. |

I've used a smith overtake helmet. It was comfortable, and decent ventilation. Overall happy with it. My one complaint is it never quite sat on my head straight, so I always looked a little goofy in pictures when wearing it. Maybe that was just my head shape, and you will be fine with it, but if you are someone who cares about that sort of thing, consider yourself warned.

I bought a smith trace MIPS this past summer. Some people complain about its ventilation but I didn’t have an issue with it. I also have a Poc Octal and while I like the fit of the octal a bit better the trace is pretty close.

I have a Smith Network, it’s been a great lid.

Happy-user here
I "upgraded" our lids to Smith Overtake a number of years back.
My wife's is always a little crooked....I think it's her thing ~ sunglasses, hats, always a bit askew Mine sits right and it's every bit as comfortable as any helmet I've had in the past. I wear a cycling cap underneath and have an ever-balding head, so I can't really speak much to breathability, but it usually gets lower marks in that regard. I've been thinking that it might be time to upgrade ~ not sure on the kool-aid for limited lifespan, but it DOES get my New England mind focusing/dreaming of warmer weather. And to be honest, I'm having a tough time imagining a more comfortable or aesthetically reasonable option. And the only sign of wear I might have is a little fading (mine is the Orange option). |

Not....
I bought one with MIPS, it sat on the shelf for a year and I went to use it and the buckle to tighten the helmet would not turn. Tried to get a replacement... finally gave up... pice of crap from my perspective.

I do not think are bad but they are into the small side, well at least years ago...
I bought the larger they had and did not fit me at all. IMO the large was like a medium/large size in other brands. Since then moved to other brands and i have no idea if they manufacture larger helmets now. |

I briefly had a Smith Overtake. Fit well, seemed 'stylish' as those things go, but the honeycomb structure seemed to create more noise at speed than the traditional styled helmets. That was a few years ago when I was faster. I could ride it now and not notice, I'm sure.

Can give a +1 for Smith helmets, both on skiing and cycling side. Cranium is all good, or so i think.....

I have a Smith Session. Overall, it’s a great helmet, but the fit doesn’t really jive with my melon.

I was wearing a mid tier Smith helmet when I crashed pretty hard a little over a year ago. I remember skidding across the road and the only thing I could hear was my helmet scraping along the tarmac. Got up and was my head was fine and I am 215-235lbs. The helmet was also relatively fine, but I did retire it after sustaining a high impact crash. Based on that I would buy again.
