Lost my virginity last night

I think I got hit. I'm not sure because I took a pretty good bump on my head. JRA, the next thing I know some guy is asking me if I'm OK. My rear wheel is literally torn in two, and there's a suspicious scuff mark on the left seatstay and the end of the skewer is bent at a 45 degree angle. I left the bike so fast my right cleat got torn off my shoe and is still on the pedal! Since I headed to the right, landing on my right shoulder and my head and since the left side of my butt has a big rectangular bruise... hm. One of my riding pals happened along right after it happened but nobody saw anything.

The frame looks OK. I knew my decision for an all metal Legend was a good one, but it's going to the shop for a lookover anyway.

I need a new hat. It's cracked in about six places. New hat, new wheel and maybe no frame damage. It could have been worse.

I'm not sure why I'm compelled to write this, because I can't for the life of me think of what I'd do differently. There's a big shoulder there and I was way right of the white line. I guess the deal is that stuff happens, and the outcome doesn't always have to be bad.

Its good that you are OK Tom, many times people are not. Did the person who hit you stop? Did the police come? Why did the person hit you, were they drinking?

Glad you're alright Tom. I hope your bike comes through its checkup ok as well.

I have to admit that I had a LOT more fun the night I lost my virginity.

Heal up.

Well---another hit and run---likely a text messager or a drinker (or both).
May the incident destroy their sleep for a month. Or a year.

Glad you're OK.

Glad you're alright Tom. Scary thought that something like that can happen so fast.

Hey, we have something in common.....matching bruises on our butts. We should take pictures and post them for the forum.

Take it easy and heal up.

William

I'd second getting checked out. I had a similar experience - ended up in the ER asking repeatedly where my bike was! My concussion resolved fine (although some on this forum may disagree!).

But one of my co-workers husband got a good knock on the head; didn't get it checked out and six weeks later had a seizure that they relate back to the original head injury. So, better checked out than not me thinks.

Take care and get well.

Was it night, night, as in dark, or close to dark? If so, I would consider more lights. (Not that that would necessarily have saved you, since we also get hit in broad daylight, but it's worth considering adding a few watts, strobe, whatever.)

Good Luck with the recovery.
Louis

Dang - glad you are ok. Sounds like your lid saved you big time.

Bummer about the wheel - but the most important component made out ok - YOU.

Hit and run...

cowards.

Ditto.

I have had two and haven't been quite the same since. I am not trying to be funny.

Tom:

Very glad you are OK. Hope that will be your one and only.

My buddy Mike wasn't so lucky today. He was leading a long paceline over an almost flat bridge and some newbie goober decided to race up alongside him to take over the pull. He bumped into Mike's shoulder and put him into a Beloki slide and tumble. Mike broke his collarbone and his pelvis and was unconscious for 20 minutes. He has two bruises inside his head that are of concern, but he's in pretty good shape, considering. Flying high on morphine and smiling when I saw him this afternoon.
