New years resolutions?

I normally don’t do them but in reality I like the idea. The new year always feels like a new start. Wash away the past year and come clean for the new.

I am going to take a stab at the #1 resolution to lose weight. I don’t just want to lose weight I want to reset my brain so that 185 is not my normal and 165 is. The problem with 185 is that when I am above my norm I am at 195 give or take and there is nothing positive about that.

So 30 pounds see ya later.

I am in the exact same boat. 195 and feel like I could lose about 30.
We should start a weight loss weigh in challenge thread.
Good luck. I was 170 four years ago and felt great. Time to get back to it.

I don't usually do them either, I generally feel that I shouldn't need a holiday to make positive change in my life. That said, this year, I'm trying to refocus and it coincides with the change in the year, so I'm in.

Buy less ****.

Leading the charge in this is: buy no unnecessary bike ****.

Ditto the weight loss. I'll classify myself as an "in-shape" overweight dude, but a similar loss would be healthy for me.

I have one simple resolution this year as I convalesce--be kinder to my body.

I get going and forget that I am over 60, not 20. Balance, strength, and recovery are all impacted, and I could avoid a lot of agro if I keep this in mind!

My New Years resolution is to clean out the closet space in my house so that I have the room to store away exercise equipment in another couple of weeks.

Same, now at 205...I think at about 175 would be ideal. Maybe be happy at 185. 20 pounds sounds a lot easier than 30. Was at 185 about 4 years ago and felt much better..

In 2017 I will...

...get rid of 2 ____ for every 1 ____ I buy.

...not buy any clothing whatsoever, except maybe socks/underwear.

...continue to sell off all extraneous bicycles/parts.

...train for cx, finally.

...focus on my relationships with people instead of things.

That is a worthy goal. Ditch the other ones though

I'll take that 185 this year!

That, and 4000 miles (my goal every year).

Other resolutions, nah.

I need to lose about 30 lbs.
No time like the present, but I always seem to lose focus by spring.

thanks for making me think of this.

the holiday season always gets me in a pretty dark corner, though not for any 'real' reason. as it rests, i like looking ahead to another chance, even if it is just as dark and cold as the end of the year the day before.

i've started some running momentum that, in comparison to recent years and sub-3hr. marathon attempts, is my largest volume of miles ever. i'm going to keep it going, and i'm going to make it bigger. i look forward to weeks with over 100k on my feet.

i'm going to buy less stuff, for sure. this was all going finely until black friday and boxing week and all that other crap driven by my own procrastination heading into the gifting season.

corollary to the buying less is going to be the absolute zeroing of all of my debt except for student loans, which are not significant and still help my tax claims somehow. i will do this by the end of march.

i was really hoping to spend more quality relationship time with people i love, and then the fall and the holiday season saw much of my relationship effort dissolve into resentment and negativity. not really sure how to move forward in these hard things, but maybe the next resolution would be to move forward at all.

my job bumps me around a lot, and disrupts a lot of the process of my work in so doing, so i resolve to treat the days like they are unique and full of opportunity to connect with people. i will forget that it will all end in three months.

i'm going to burn a lot of things. like paperwork from decades ago that sits on top of my desk serving no purpose. it's going to burn. and i will make that fire with a fire steel and a high-carbon blade and my girls.

i will keep things sharp and lubed and well-maintained, including my mind and body and knives and drivetrains.

i will worry less about the gear, and concern myself with the time.

i will be more quiet in my mind, and write more in a journal, and be kinder to people in all honesty.
