Replacing hub on wheels with different brand
This may sound like a stupid question, but I ran sram and then switched over to campy recently. I have a set of Stans 340 wheels that are shimano/sram and was going to switch the hub over to campy. I have a spare campy hub from a set of mavics, and was wondering if I had to have a specific hub to switch over or if the mavic hub would work? Any help would be hugely appreciated...

the cassette carrier from the Mavics will not fit on the freehub body of the shimano. you will have to change the freehub (cassette carrier) on that wheelset and probably re-space the wheel. good luck finding a shop willing to do that.

Shimano doesn't make a Campy freehub body, so you're a bit SOL on just swapping the freehub.
Other simple option is probably one of those Campy-spaced Shimano cassettes. Or building a new wheel.... |

wheels manufacturing makes conversion cassettes http://wheelsmfg.com/products/rear-d...nversions.html

Not sure if I'm missing something, but if the OP has a set of Stans 340 wheels with the 3.30 series rear hub, then Stans sells a conversion hub.

I feel like the easiest solution here would be to have the wheel re-laced with a campy specific hub... No?

If the hub is indeed from a set of wheels from Stan's all you need is a new freehub body. We need more information from the OP to be sure. Unless you are dealing with expensive carbon rims (Enve or Zipp) I don't think it's very wise to take a set of rims and relace them to different hubs. You need need new spokes and nipples anyway. Saving money on the rims when you look at the cost for good hubs I wouldn't bother. You are better off selling the wheels as is and just getting new wheels. |
