1993 Bridgestone RB-1

Just picked this one up, found it on the good deals thread. (Thanks cneighbor1!)

Came with a Shimano 600 groupset and 7 spd rear hub, and the frame is in decent shape. Immediately swapped the 20c Michelin power comp tires for some 32c gp 4 seasons.

Nice score! I can only fit 28s on mine of the same year. Maybe 30s would fit but would be tight. Good for you on the 32s. Enjoy that baby.

Thanks! I just got it rideable, and really enjoying it.
It's my first "actual" road bike, after a series of hybrids and odd-ball townie bikes.

Surprised at how much variation the frames seem to have, could go even bigger on the rear.

On the front, the pinch point is actually the brake caliper, not the fork. Need something slightly lower profile, I've heard good things about the Shimano r7000/r8000 calipers in that respect.

Of course, I'm also pondering a 650b swap, in which case it will be moot

Getting it dialed in slowly, so far I'm enjoying the SRAM groupset, though the Shimano 600 honestly felt nicer to use.

I got tired of reaching for down tube shifters in traffic when I had Shimano 600, but it was a very good group.

Unfortunately just found some paint cracks near the seatpost. I don't think I overtorqued anything, but we'll see. Going to take it to a local framebuilder to get checked out.

Luckily cracks were only paint deep.

Some new tires and brakes, and I have tire clearance too. Br-7800, and Vittoria corsa n.ext in 700x30

Nice.
There would be some value to your fellow Paceliners in measuring the actual installed size of any tires you are attempting to fit.

Nominal does not always = actual.

Yup.
Previous tires are 32mm gp 4 season, measured 33mm on 21mm rim, 31mm on 19mm rim.
Just barely squeaked in with 2mm clearance, tightest points are vertical front and back.

The 30mm Corsa n.ext (tubed) measures about 27mm on the same rims, and I've now got 8mm/6mm clearance front and back.

Have you tried a 650b conversion yet? I'm contemplating buying one expressly for the sake of a 650b conversion and am wondering what tires would fit. I'm guessing 38's; I don't know about 42's.

There's an article over on CyclingTips that I think implied that 650b 42mm tires fit after dimpling the chainstays but that it's a tight fit.

I'm still stalling on the 650b wheels, just waffling on what direction to go in.

Right now I'm experimenting with bars/stems, and I'm thinking I'll need to go with 26.0 bars to get the visual weight correct. And swapped the black housing for white.

With 700c wheels, it fits 700x32, but when I moved from 15mm to 21internal rims, nit got pretty tight, so I'll probably swap over to some 700x30 Vittoria n.ext until I try 650b.
