Pegoretti re-visited

After owning a Pegoretti Marcelo and selling it I always told myself and others when asked. What was the one bike you regret passing on? The answer was always my 2008 Pegoretti Marcelo in Baci with no hesitation and my head hung down in shame.

Another answer I always gave to people when asked. What bike would you purchase if the Speedvagen was to leave your position? The answer always, Pegoretti... That day came when I passed on the SV to a great guy and forumite Hai Ho. See his story here. Hai Ho Speedvagen Story

Fast forward 6 years later almost to the day and a Pegoretti Round falls into my lap. This one having the XCR Columbus tubing and if you know me I always like to try different bikes and XCR being one I have not tried before. On paper this bike checks all the boxes. I always lusted after the Responsorium but being about 190lbs I always felt I was just too heavy to make the investment to try. The Round seems to fit the bill for us heavier riders that like to put down watts when the time calls.

The build will consist of the following

2022 Pegoretti Round 53cm Texas Flood paint
Fork: Falz 2
Headset: D11
Handlebars: Beast components Red UD 420mm C-C
Stem: Beast components Red UD 110mm
Seatpost: Beast components Red UD 0 setback 27.2 with shim
Saddle: options Berk Lupina Red cover 150mm-- Beast Components 142mm Red UD Carbon unpadded
Wheelset: Mavic CCU tubular 1180grams
Tires: Vittoria Pave tubular 25mm
Skewers: KCNC Ti
Groupset: Campagnolo Chorus 12speed
Crankset: Chorus 50-34
Cassette: Chorus 11-34
Bartape: Rapha Classic
Pedals: Look Keo Ceramic

I think that covers it. Although not your traditional steel/Pegoretti build, I believe what I would like this bike for in my stable the build is well suited. This will be my go to bike when the roads turn upwards with higher elevation rides that we like to do on early Saturday mornings. 11-34 50-34 may be a bit extreme and the lightweight carbon bits but I think that will keep the weight down on the bike at least mentally when climbing 15%+. Pictures of parts to follow but pretty excited to build this up for the 2023 season

Touch points

Beast Components

Although not the lightest parts out there they are pretty stout for their respective weights

Stem: 140grams

Handlebars: 174grams

Saddle and seatpost: 254grams

Seatpost: 152grams
Post only: 73grams

Post clamping hardware: 79grams

Saddle: 100grams Note the logo on saddle under clear. Anyone care to take a stab at the brand?

Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate Tubular
*Decals will be stripped if I like the wheelset on this bike*
Vittoria 25mm Pave tires
Tuffo Tape
Lightweight valve extenders

Another risky part of the build. Excited to try these out

I believe the person that was selling it actually decided to keep it. At least that was the case a few months ago.

Ahh yes the seatpost. I am going to see how that will work out. It was part of the package deal and wouldn't have been my choice if piecing together.

Glad to see this is happening! Dream frame for those of us on the heavier side! I have had a Respo and it was a smooth machine, but this one was looks so stout! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on its ride!

Can't wait to see the finished build....as a SRV fan, I've always loved the Texas Flood paint....it just looks like it sounds.

Rode my Duende yesterday and chuckled a bit while passing the di2/disc crowd. I love the simplicity of rim brake/mech, and SR12 is absolutely glorious.

I've thought about swapping my Bora Ultras for LW Obermayers like yours above, but think I'll stay all Campy.

This made me think of something... Are the color schemes only reserved for certain models? Like you noted above Baci, my Baci was a Marcelo can there also be a Baci in say a BLE, 8:30, etc?
