A bit morbid, but these photos are of me just seconds before my face met a guardrail and I was airlifted to the medical center in La Crosse, WI on August 13. 178 miles into day 1 of the Coulee Challenge 1200k. You can actually see the turn where I crashed in the background of the 2nd photo.

Please do not debunk the myth that gravel riding and randonees are safer than riding a fast road bike around town!

Not steep, but it was a sharp turn. I came in hot and...welll...ran out of turn!

Just looked it up and scene is just north of Waumandee.
Beautiful area to ride.

Looks like it was a beautiful day to ride. I’ve always wanted to visit that Stevie Ray Vaughan statue. I’ll be in that area next weekend for Tour das Hugel.
