Is Campagnolo 10 speed still a thing?

I loved Campy Record 10 speed, except for replacing the g-springs. Campy 11 was much easier to service but the 10 speed just felt much better to me.

I regard the Campagnolo ten speed parts as the last parts from the company that were designed to be durable, serviceable, functional, and beautiful in equal measure. Beyond that point, Campagnolo began to head in a different direction and became much more like their competitors. I find it interesting how many people recognized the change when it was happening and made the decision to draw a line and remain with the ten speed parts.

Of course Record and Chorus are up to 12 now, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with, or preventing someone from still riding 10sp stuff.

As far as I know, 10-sp consumables, cassettes, chains, etc are still available and being made.

As are shift springs, spring carriers and the various other small lever bits.

If you need a OVH or fix, let me know...one day turnaround.

What grades are you guys riding that stay with 10-speed? I’m on 10-speed now, just curious about the areas people ride in and when they’d feel the need for more gears.

BITD when I was riding the hilly challenge rides that are set among the Driftless hills in the area of SW Wisconsin, I rode either a 52/42/30 triple with a 12-25 cassette or later a 50/34 compact with a 13-29 cassette. That gearing worked out quite well.

These rides feature many shorter steep grades (over 10% for a good part of the climb but usually less than a half mile long), not the longer climbs one does in mountainous areas.

Nowadays I’d likely choose a subcompact 46/30 crank with that lovely 13-29. Almost a 1:1 low gear. Sure, I’d spin out on the downhills, but I don’t care.

I lucked into some alloy 10spd Chorus shifters and derailleurs that I'm excited to use. It'll be my first experience with Campy. These components, the shifters especially, are my vote for "most beautiful"; very classic-looking.

I've got GRX 11spd on my gravel bike, 105 9spd on my CAAD5, and I've run 5-8spd friction on previous bikes. The number of cogs has never made much of a difference to me.

It’d be nice to mix/match Campag/Shimano hubs with Campag 11/12 speed drivetrains, but that’s not a priority, as there are plenty of Campag wheelsets out there if I run short. My wife asked me one day about the collection of bike parts on a couple of shelves in my “wine cellar” and I explained to her that in the event of my untimely demise, Google Paceline forum and post my 10-speed parts for sale, to help subsidize the swimming pool that she’s always wanted.

This thread has me rethinking my current plans of updating all of my bikes to Record 12, precipitated by an Ekar build.

Now I'm thinking that I'm going to keep my road bikes on Record 10 Compact, and update just the two existing 10 speed 'cross/gravel bikes to Record 12. That way I keep wheel compatibility within formats (aside from the Watia with Ekar, which is the only non-rim disc bike) and get the lower gearing on the gravel bikes.

50/34 11-27 will get me up any grade I've come across. Granted I don't live near any mountains, but I do have bikes and will travel to the Blue Ridge and/or the Rockies. I rode up Magnolia outside Boulder with 39-28, 500 miles along the Blue Ridge Highway on 34-28, and up Roan Mountain on 34-27.

No KOM's but I do enjoy having to "push" my way up a difficult climb.

In my household I have or recently had the following. All have a decent amount of mileage, so it's a pretty fair comparison.

- SRAM: Force 1x 11spd mech, eTap 11spd w mid-cage RD, eTap 11spd w short-cage RD
- Campy: Chorus 9spd, Record 10spd, Super Record 11spd mech
- Shimano: Dura-Ace 8spd, Dura-Ace 9spd, Ultegra 10spd Di2, 105 11spd, Deore 12spd on my MTB

Force 1x is by far the worst, as you'd imagine. But the Record 10spd is the worst of the rest. Super Record 11spd and eTap 11spd w short-cage rear derailleur are tied for first.

Honorable mention to Deore 12 speed. The shifting is great, especially considering the price and that it has to handle a 10-51t cassette.

Ahhh, but set up is everything.

Thats funny! The only non mountain groups I've used since I got my first road bike 20 years ago have been Record/Chorus 10 and Force 1. You can't be unhappy if you dont know the alternative! I just have to never try anything else.
