Whose MXL?

Does anyone here own THIS?

Why would the bi-ovalized tubes be switched?

I think the earlier MX Leaders/Corsa Extra MAX bikes had the top tube arranged as this one, with the vertically oriented ovalization at the head tube.

My MX Leader was later (ca. 1996), with the vertically oriented ovalization at the seat tube.

The later orientation is what Eddy preferred, so they must have had a ramp up time to producing lugs to facilitate that orientation.

Oh i dident even know there were corsa extra max bikes. What differed on a corsa extra max vs a mxl (apart from the direction of the tt potentially)?

It is a different top tube completely. Not just swapped around.

This is correct. To my best understanding it was a round top tube and not a bioval. This has gotta be a Corsa Extra MAX frame not an MXLeader. Edit: as lhuerta posted ^.. top tube is Minimax on MXL.

Plus..

I want me some Ultagra shifty bits..

This is the true orientation of a MAX tubeset built with Lugs. My Koga Miyata has the same profiles.

As has been stated, this is the true orientation of max tt with lugs, and precursor to the Eddy designed Mxl tubeset. Corsa Extra max

Rare frame and as an aside, that is a horrendous looking setup. Fluo tape with modern/black components.....I can't unsee that.

Sooo. What’s the frame worth assuming it’s in good condition but a res pray? Looks like he probably covered lots of chrome...

Only chrome showing on those frames was drive side chain stay, so the paint job is correct. I don't think these were chromed all the way 'round like some.

Worth? That's the age old question....seems like a very optimistic price given the rest of the build. All depends on how much you value the Corsa Extra MAX vs. the MXL. $500 less and I think you're in the ballpark of a good deal, but I have a feeling the repaint is driving up the price, as that's easily a $500 paintjob.

That bike was listed a few weeks before, but i can't remember if the price was the same. I think that's not a bad deal, considering there will probably be a bit of dickering at the time of sale. That looks to be an ex team frame, since it has the number tab. You couldn't build that bike for that much.
