2017 Pan Mass Challenge: Consider a donation to help fight cancer
The PMC. The annual massive cycle-a-thon across 192 miles of beautiful picturesque Massachusetts countryside. All the way from Sturbridge through Bourne, over the Bourne bridge and out to Provincetown. Over two days more than 7,500 people dedicate their time, energy and efforts to raise $46+ Million dollars to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Last year I was astonished at the outpouring of support for this ride from the community at large. Not only were there spectators at 5am on the first day standing along side the road cheering riders on, but folks were lining the street the entire way. Through the generosity of a lot of family and friends, I was able to raise almost $4,600 towards this awesome cause. This year, I've set my sights high. I'm hoping to raise $10,000. It's a drop in a bucket considering the overall amount the PMC raises, but as an individual, I think it's a realistic goal. 100% of the money all riders raise by riding the PMC goes to the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, no bs, no fuss, 100%. Last year this ride raised $48M. This year I'm dedicating my ride to the family members and family friends who have fought, survived and lost their lives to cancer. Please help support my efforts in this monumental undertaking. Thanks, Chris Christopher Deraleau's Ride |

10 days away and I've raised $5,325!
I've got until October to raise the rest if I'm going to make my goal. |

Registered as well for my 3rd. My dad might not be volunteering again this year so might have to resolve my own my of staying up there Sunday night. Registered for party ferry and bus to Sturbridge at the moment in the worst case scenario that I go back home immediately after.

#6 for me this year. Always one of the best weekends of the summer.
Oh, but what rig to take this year? |

I’ve been tempted to try a single speed or fixxie but I don’t have much Road time with one. Maybe my Colnago Prestige CX, or go classic with steel. I’ve done the past few years on my C50 and it’s been fabulous!

1st PMC for me and
My first PMC, along with the people from work that took that step to sign up!
What to expect? I suspect the ride is a leisurely paced parade with many rest stops. Is there much climbing in the early miles? |

Elevation profiles (day 1&2). It’s all in what you make of it. Ive shot for a 16.5mph average pace. There’s normally a rest stop every 18-25 miles or so. Feel free to hit me up if you’re looking for a similar pace. I normally ride with a group of 6-8 who are all similarly paced. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

And by the way, Cape Cod is not flat. While your pace is up to you, there will be a lot of groups in a hurry. Be careful about pacelines, people seem to do stupid things on the PMC in groups that they wouldn't do other days -- riding on the wrong side of the road, blowing through stop signs, failing to signal stops, potholes, etc. I tend to stay out of pacelines on the PMC, unless they look very smooth and experienced. Rest stops are every 20 miles or so. Along the way, you'll see large groups of spectators cheering you on. Trust me, you are not ready for this or for the photos of the young children in treatment before one of the rest stops. Just let the tears flow. Have fun!
