Especially with a 12sd cassette, they should have gone to 34t.

The design of the 12v rear mech negates the need for a clutch, they call it the Embrace System, and that stops Chain Slap and keeps gear changes consistant.

I wonder if 12v cassettes will be compatible between the three manufacturers, the way 11v cassettes are. I have a Record 11 rear derailleur shifting an Ultegra 11-34, better than the 12-29 Campy cassette that was on the bike originally. A lot cheaper too!

Campagnolo's Embrace technlogy helps maintain constant chain gap over a wider range of rear sprockets, and does nothing to stop the bottom run of chain from bouncing and slapping like a clutch derailleur does. (The Embrace technology is basically an offset B pivot.)

I’d build a breakaway bike with it.

Yup! After I retired I am wanting lower gears. Climbed a short/steep hill today that the Wahoo says was 19.2%. The 34/29 combo just barely covered it. If the climb went on a lot longer I would have been really hurting.
