OT: RIP Dr. Z

Paul Zimmerman died last week. As far as I know, he was the first person to write intelligently about the NFL. His Thinking Man's Guide to the NFL remains one of the best sports books of all time and he wrote in SI for years about football.

What many don't remember is that he wrote the wine column in the New York Post for years (before it was "Murdoched") and was one of the world's great "cranks." He hated drawn-out renditions of the national anthem and would time them. Anything over 90 seconds would draw his wrath - something that regularly occurred at Super Bowls.
