1" threadless headset
I have discovered that the headset on my Serotta travel bike is very crunchy and notchy, also "indexed".
Looking online, it doesnt appear that too many threadless 1" headsets are available. I was hoping to grab a Velo Orange silver one, but they dont carry one anymore. What is a solid, affordable option?

Tange, Ritchey or FSA. All can be had for under $40.

I guess it comes down to what you consider affordable. Assuming you want silver:
FSA Orbit X IRD Techno-Glide Origin8 Pro Fit I've used the first two and they are quality. If black, many, many options. Last edited by donevwil; 02-23-2024 at 07:37 PM. |

I have the FSA Orbit on my Gunnar. Zero complaints. I think I picked it up new for $30.

FAS Duron. If you buy it new, it comes with both a threaded top nut and a top for threadless. Shiny silver. Works great.

Mods, please move this to the classifieds...
Seriously though, there are plenty of 1" threadless headsets sitting in parts bins around the country. Seek and thee shall find.

+1 This is a great headset, and Cane Creek has an excellent track record on keeping spare parts available/stuff compatible for a long time.
The only reason to go with something else is if you need roller bearings. |

IMO, Cane Creek 40 series is the best value for headsets. Not flashy, easy installation, work great with durability, and replacement parts are easily acquired, all at relatively low dollars.
