A few photos I took this morning for a series of posts I'm doing on Instagram called "what_does_the_builder_ride"?

This is a Coors Light Team bike I built in either 1990 or 1991 and stumbled across decades later and just had to snatch up. Some of you good folks here helped me source vintage parts for it!

Can anyone spot the odd braze-on set up on this bike? Let's see if anyone can pick it out and then I'll share the story of how it ended up this way.

Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner.

The director sportif Len Pettyjon called me to tell me that he wanted all the boys bikes to have pump pegs so that they could carry a pump on long solo training rides. I told him we'd need to ditch the number plate mount to allow the pump to fit and he got 'firm' with me and told me the bikes needed to have both. Full stop.

"But sir....the pump won't fit if the number plate hanger is in the way" i told him sheepishly and he told me he didn't care and it needed to have both. So I built a handful of them this way and when they were delivered I got another call asking me how in the hell are they supposed to carry a pump with that hanger in the way? I reminded him that I had shared this info with him at the beginning and he got quiet and then nicely told me to leave the pump pegs off from now one.

This is one of the few that was built with both. I'll bet the Coors boys thought I was an idiot for building them that way.

Now it's an interesting conversation starter.

Dave,

I'm curious whatever happened to the build for which you sourced the Mavic components?

That one is waiting for paint.

I sent it to Joe Bell for paint about a year back but had him put it on hold since the Cino Heroica event that I wanted to take it to was cancelled due to covid.

But the Cino is back on for this year and JB's got it in his sites now and will be starting work on it very soon.

I'm excited to have it back!

Smile Kirk owner

Not that he needs it, but I wanted to chime in and say that I chose Kirk Frameworks for my frame because he answered the phone. His frames re amazing and all that but it was that first conversation that sold me. He was patient with some of my ignorance about measurement and worked with me to make sure I got what I wanted. He won't tell me the tubing tho.

People always ask me about the tubing on my bike. I always say, "Dave won't tell me, but it's the tubing I needed."

Hello - thanks for chiming in. Without your real name (as opposed to the screen name) I have no idea who you are and what I built for you. I apologize that you didn't get the tubing info....it's never my intent to keep that info away from the owner and I'll be happy to look it up if you contact me directly....just let me know.

Ha - no worries. I think you were just busy the day I asked. I'll email you some time about it. Thanks!

This one's mine, by the way.
