My brother came home with the moving pictures album when we were kids and it absolutely blew our minds.

People don't realise that Neil Peart wrote a lot of Rush's lyrics too.

Great band, awesome drummer. I was fortunate enough to see them in 1980. RIP Neil.

Though I was not a big fan, I listened, liked, appreciated, respected.
Saw the documentary a few years ago and was struck by the absence of the typical drama, craziness, excess, self-destructiveness. I'm sure there was some but I dont recall ever hearing reports of that kind of thing like you did with other bands.
NP was an interesting guy for sure, aside from his virtuosity.

I feel the same way...especially as a percussionist. But I guess that was the style of Rush. It's comforting to know he could play so many styles and play them tastefully (ie not overplay).

One thing I think we could all agree on is his chops! And sense of time. YOW~!

How he switches timing - ghost beats - all of it... Never too much. One of the best of all time (pun intended) where the top are all equal. What sets Neil apart is that he is more than just a percussionist. His lyrics, study of philosophy, writing (I need to read his books...), dedication to study of his art... all of it. A more influential introvert would be hard to find.
