What era brakes are these, and are they the correct pads?

Scored a nice set of mint condition record brakes, wondering what era they belong to, 9-sp maybe?

also, the pads/holders do not look like any campy ones i have seen, are they correct? the front pads need replacement, and i dont think these would take standard campy pads.

thanks!

1st gen 8 speed era

Those appear to be 1st generation Campagnolo BR-14RE dual pivot brakes circa 1995. The brake pads/holders are correct/original. Replacement pads that will fit are BR-RE600 1995-1999 or "pre-2000" Campagnolo pads.

Heavy by today's standards, but they have very good modulation when paired with the matching 8 speed ergo levers.

Well, by today's standards I suppose.

It's gonna be beautiful, in any case.

Well, first the earth cooled, and then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes, I couldn't believe it. Those brakes came sometime after that.

I agree they are pre 2000 with the oval pads. They are a bit taller than the 2001-current pads. Great brakes. These probably still take ferrules on the cables.

I think the early 10spd calipers themselves were identical but the logo changed to have record printed in a box, the adjustment ID changed to eliminate the need for a ferrule and the brake pad shape changed. Late ones got ti bits and the single pivot rear.

In short, post-Elvis.

So called '9s' brakes, made from 1995-1999. Use a different pad, unique holder but Kool Stop makes them. Newer, post 1999 holders are plug and play tho..

Thanks Peter. Yes, i have some of the newer campy holders in the bin and will get fresh pads, and mount them. that will keep things simpler. the current pads feel hard and dry, i think they are beyond theur use-by date, plus they are pretty thin.

I found the 8 speed pads a little difficult to keep centered on the rim braking surface. Current pads are an improvement. The calipers will definitely stop a bike.
