Curious to see how this works out for you and I hope they fully cover your return.

I have to say that with dozens of buys over the years frome Merlin they are my favorite and most trusted overseas source.

Two tires and chains from them got to me in Utah earlier this week in 3 days and cheaper than I could find anywhere else.

I usually assume an international purchase of a bulky item is non-returnable by default because I'll never want to pay return shipping.

Sometimes if you hear something loose in the rim it is a small piece of aluminum from when they were drilled. I had this happen with a Mavic once. The solution was that I dripped a tiny bit of superglue inside the wheel from the valve hole, turned the wheel so the noisemaker fell into the spot of glue, and let it sit for a bit. I never heard from it again.

That is probably what I’ll end up doing. Hopefully it’ll work. It’s more difficult perhaps with these since the rim bed is sealed.

The sanding I can live with especially if I incur additional costs to return.

Both were just unexpected in an $1100 wheelset (after gov tax)

Merlin responded and gave me 2 options; return for refund stating they’d reimburse reasonable shipping costs (lowest cost usps) or fix locally and they’d cover costs.

I’d order from them again…

That's a respectable outcome.

I'm surprised to hear of the less than stellar quality of campag/fulcrum wheels in this thread. Makes me suspect that Merlin may be moving some factory seconds or otherwise somehow compromised products, as every campag wheel i've had hands on has been excellent quality out of the box.

Knowing what you said to be true about Campag/Fulcrum quality I would be very surprised if a company like Campagnolo released any seconds at all.

There is no upside to that scenario & they would more than likely destroy all problem products rather than sell for a discount & tarnish their reputation

Not to say that any companies quality control couldn't miss something

Well, end result is the wheels roll so nice and I’ll get the loose bit hopefully fixed later this week. It’s not metal and I’ve given up trying to get it out.

The sanding was mostly all inside the rim so it’s not visible besides a few spots where they did the hook as well but it’s not visible unless you look closely.

Side note is one Teravail rampart tire held pressure for 36 hours mounted and inflated dry.
